It is widely known that translators should stick to translating exclusively into their native language. In our age of readily available online resources, source language proficiency gets much less scrutiny. In my experience, however, translation quality is directly dependent on the level of mastery of both source and target language. This is why I am routinely active in very few language pairs – in fact only two:
- English to German
- Hungarian to German
What about other languages?
I am interested and reasonably proficient in a number of languages outside my working pairs, including French, Spanish, Italian and Romanian, and I have established an extensive network of professional contacts during my career. With more than a decade of experience in screening and selecting translators, I might be able to help you find the best professional for your needs in language pairs other than the ones I cover myself.
